Clin d'Oeil is made from the Oeillade variety, a grape indigenous to the Languedoc but now nearly extinct. It's spicy and surprisingly fresh with touches of wood smoke, earth and dark, balsamic fruit. Laurent has a laissez-faire approach to winemaking, letting the grapes speak for themselves and allowing some brettanomyces and volatile acidity in the finished wines.

Laurent Bagnol makes wild and rustic wines in his cellar deep in the Languedoc scrubland between Montpellier and Nimes. He works with old vines – some up to 100 years – bearing mostly indigenous grapes such as Oeillade, Carignan and Cinsault which are adapted to the intense climate of the area.
